![]() While many are angered by the similarities, others are simply disappointed at what they deem wasted potential. “We are avid fans of Cuphead and were inspired by it to create something similar, but we’re trying to give it a different spin and making it our own thing,” the creators wrote on their official Facebook page. Twitter user posted a screenshot with a six-week-old comment from the creators themselves in which they don’t hide their influence from Cuphead. This game is not off to a good start,” Twitter user wrote.Įnchanted Portals: Can I copy your homework?Ĭuphead: Sure just make it look different so it doesn't look like you just copied it.īOYYYY if this isn't borderline plagiarism…. ![]() This game feels almost plagiaristic as it has the same mechanics and the art style Cuphead achieved so well. “A video game called Enchanted Portals has had a lot of people call it a ripoff to Cuphead and I have to agree with that consensus. Many fans have been quick to point out the similarities and are expressing their frustrations online, accusing Enchanted Portals of ripping off the popular indie title for a quick cash grab.Ī video game called Enchanted Portals has had a lot of people call it a ripoff to Cuphead and I have to agree with that consensus. Many pointed out that not only does Enchanted Portals use a similar art style reminiscent of 1930’s cartoons, but the trailer footage also shows similar gameplay mechanics and boss fights. As with any other successful title, Cuphead has seen its fair share of ripoffs and scams. Just two weeks after its release on PC and Xbox One, it sold a million copies worldwide. Many gamers were quick to notice that the graphics and gameplay looked strikingly familiar, drawing a comparison to none other than top-selling platformer Cuphead.Ĭuphead, released by StudioMDHR, is an indie game known for its 1930’s cartoon-inspired art style, whimsical music, and challenging gameplay. A trailer was released Tuesday on YouTube, announcing that a Kickstarter for it will open on Oct. But this game, this game is on the “mobile game rip-off” level of rip-offs, and that’s not an easy feat to achieve. An indie game by the name of Enchanted Portals is on its way to a potential release on Nintendo Switch and PC. And this is coming from a guy who couldn’t give 2 shits about the game being a cuphead clone, I’ve played plenty of games that are considered “rip-offs” of other games and a lot of them I enjoyed a ton. To anyone reading this I recommend you don’t play this game until there is at least something done about the quality this game lacks. From being a rip-off, to having false advertising, to having every single aspect about the game be unbelievably terrible, the fact that the game costs as much as the game it ripped off despite being at most 1/50th of quality to the original, to most of the cutscenes just literally being an image that flashes the screen for a few seconds, to the game using STOCK SOUND EFFECTS. Normally I’d be very lenient to games from solo/duo developers, but this game is wrong on so many levels that there’s no excuse I can possibly make to defend it. It’s almost like this game had a de-development, the release trailer looks like a rip-off of a game that’s already a rip-off of a more popular game. And lo and behold, the trailers look like a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME compared to even the release trailer. I was left speechless, I remembered the game looking like an actually quality product in the old trailers so I went to check them out. ![]() And mind you this was me just watching someone play it, I couldn’t begin to imagine my thoughts if I actually played it. ![]() I thought it just needed time and that it would pick up from there but NOPE! I had to close the video 25 minutes in cause I physically couldn’t bare to watch any longer. The first 10 minutes were INCREDIBLY boring and clunky. The animation in the trailer seemed quite a bit worse than the animation from the kickstarter trailer, but I chalked that up to my foggy memory and gave it benefit of the doubt. Today, after hearing the news about the game’s release, I immediately looked up the official release trailer.
